Black wrapped wire courting candle holder and candle. Used in days gone by when a suitor would come by to court a mans daughter. If the father thought the suitor looked respectable and met all his requirements to be a possible husband for his daughter he would set the candle level high so the candle would burn longer and the suitor would stay for a longer period of time with his daughter. If the father did not like the suitor he would set the level low so the candle would burn out quickly and the suitor would have to leave sooner. When the candle burned out the time spent between the suitor and the young lady would end.
