A collection of Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic Rocks. Includes 9 specimens and a carry pouch. The Earth is constantly changing because of heat and pressure from the inside and from weather on the Earth's surface. These changes cause rocks to form.
Sedimentary rocks are formed near the surface of the Earth by wind, water and weather. Erosion cause little bits of sand or soil or pieces of rocks and shells to move over the Earth. They finally settle together and harden in layers.
Igneous rocks are formed when magma or molten rock from deep inside the Earth cools. Sometimes magma is forced to the surface of the Earth by pressure inside. The pressure causes volcano's to erupt which produces lava.
Metamorphic: (Gneiss, Homeblende, Marble, Schist)
Metamorphic rocks are formed when extreme heat, pressure and major shifting of the Earth cause changes in Sedimentary or Igneous rocks. They often look like they have been folded or squeezed.
This set will help you identify the 9 rocks contained within it and give you clear, concise descriptions of each rock so the next time you're walking on the beach, out in the field or even in your own back yard and you spot a rock you'll be able to identify it just like the pros.
